Occupational Safety

Occupational Safety

The company’s occupational safety management system is always being enhanced. The Hazard Identification, Evaluation, and Management Regulations were designed by the company’s management as one of the elements of successful management of occupational hazards that may endanger the lives and health of the company’s personnel. The occupational safety management system of the refinery includes the occupational safety policy produced on the basis of the governmental occupational safety policy in line with the Kazakhstan Republic’s Labour Code.

The company’s key strategic goal in the field of occupational safety is to protect the lives and health of its employees as they fulfill their job obligations, as well as to limit the risks of accidents and occupational diseases.

In connection with its participation in the all-Kazakhstan contest for the best occupational environment and safety “SUCCESS AND SAFETY 2022,” the Refinery placed second among the companies of the city of Astana and the Astana region in the nomination “Production Companies with 100 Employees and More” in May 2023. This nomination included 375 different companies.

The oil refinery was inspected (field inspection) by the Astana Region Labour Inspectorate from May to June 2023. There were no infractions under the occupational safety regulations discovered.

In addition to implementing ecological policies, we also prioritize occupational safety to protect the health and well-being of our workers. Some of our occupational safety measures include:

1. Training and education: We provide comprehensive training programs to ensure that workers are aware of potential hazards, safety procedures, and emergency response protocols. This includes training on the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of chemicals.

2. Hazard identification and risk assessment: We conduct regular inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards in the workplace. This helps in implementing necessary control measures to minimize risks and prevent accidents.

3. Maintenance and equipment safety: We have strict maintenance procedures in place to ensure that equipment and machinery are regularly inspected, serviced, and repaired to prevent malfunctions or accidents. This includes implementing lockout/tagout procedures to control energy sources during maintenance activities.

4. Emergency preparedness: We have emergency response plans in place to effectively respond to incidents such as fires, explosions, or chemical spills. This includes conducting regular drills and exercises to train workers on emergency response procedures.

5. Health monitoring: We conduct regular health monitoring of workers to identify any occupational health risks or exposures. This may include medical examinations, air quality monitoring, and exposure monitoring for hazardous substances.

6. Safety culture: We foster a strong safety culture by promoting open communication, encouraging reporting of near misses or safety concerns, and recognizing and rewarding safe behaviors. This helps create a proactive and safety-conscious work environment.

7. Regulatory compliance: We also adhere to all relevant occupational safety regulations and standards set by local authorities. They also regularly review and update their safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with changing regulations.

By prioritizing occupational safety, we aim to create a safe working environment for our employees and prevent accidents or incidents that could harm workers’ health and well-being.
